Use your vote in the European Parliamentary election
Today we all have an opportunity to vote for our representatives in the European Parliamentary election.
As a union committed to democratic values we do ask our members to use your hard won right to vote and have your say on who governs us. Today’s European Parliamentary election is on a regional and proportional basis – so every vote counts and there is no need to vote tactically in order to prevent any particular party succeeding.
We would ask all our members to think about which of the available parties best represents your interests as someone who works in schools, local government, higher education, hospitals or the charitable sector. Which of the parties can act as a guardian of workers’ rights in the European Union?
We would also ask you to consider our values as union – solidarity, social justice, equality and public service – and measure the parties against those values.
While it is entirely your choice on who to vote for it needs to be highlighted that no elections are without consequence. The results of the election today will have a bearing on the next campaign leading up to the general elections in 2015.
So please consider which party will work for you, your family and your community and use your vote.
