Learning Disabilities Campaign - Letters/Calls to Councillors
Dear UNISON member
Learning Disability Campaign – Letters/Calls to Councillors
I would like to thank you very much for all your support throughout our Learning Disability campaign. The recent lobby of the Council meeting where we also presented the petition signed by almost all staff was a great success.
I have attached a template (see links bekow) to enable all staff, friends, family, service users and their carers/family to contact their local Councillor to raise their concerns about the outsourcing of LD services. We already have the support of several Councillors and believe we can persuade others of the validity of our campaign – please help us to do this by sending this letter and encouraging others to do the same.
There is a link at the top of the Somerset Councillors document that will tell you who your local Councillor is. All you have to do is add the name of the Councillor at the top of the page, give a few details about why you’re concerned such as the valuable role you do providing Learning Disability Services put your name at the bottom, then send it to their email address. Also attached is a phone script so you can phone your Councillors as well. It would be great if every member could contact their Councillor first and then support other staff, friends and family members to do the same.
Please feed back any responses to us on email@example.com so that we can publicise these.
One of the strongest messages that we can send the employer is to show that our campaign is supported by staff as well as having a rising membership. If every member could recruit three new members we would show Somerset County Council that staff are fully behind the campaign. People can either join online by the link below or by phoning 0800 171 2193.
We now have the majority of LD workplaces covered by a Unison Contact if not a Steward; we really need these representatives in every workplace to help us with the campaign. If there is still not a steward in your workplace or you would like to get more involved, why not become a steward? Please contact us for more details.
Thank you for your continued support, together we can defeat these proposals.
